We are blessed in Ontario to have universal health care. But what the government will pay for has its limits. Having health benefits to support you and your family for specialized medical expenses, dental and/or unexpected medical expenses is important. Most employed individuals receive benefits from their employer. For those that are self employed, own their own businesses or don’t have access to a benefits plan, there are a number of options to choose from, including:
- Group benefits plan – created for a company of 2 or more people
- Pooled benefits plan – individuals/families purchase individual policies but are pooled together in order to reduce the overall costs.
- Health Spending Account – a supplement to traditional health benefits that allows you to submit claims for whatever you choose and can cover many expenses that aren’t covered by traditional plan, such as laser eye surgery or orthodontics.
My role is to introduce you to the options available to meet your specific need, to work with the many insurance companies to find the right fit for you for coverage, price and flexibility. And my job is not finished when you sign up. I will be here to revisit and adjust your plans on a regular basis so that you know you are receiving the best coverage possible.
